Since most of us are freezing our booties off in what seems like the longest winter ever, I'm sure I'm not alone when I have a hard time remembering the brightness of the oh-so-elusive sun. Day after day of dreary and gloomy skies does not make me think of sunglasses, but if I were to head out the door to my nearest ski (or sledding) hill, I'd have a wicked hankering for some shades to counter the blinding whiteness.
Baby
Banz has come up with a great way to keep shades on our littlest
kiddos, who's eyes are the most vulnerable when out in the sun in any
climate. They have adorable styles (not only for snow, but for the beach, pool, and stylish gals as
well!) and each one has a neoprene (the material used in wetsuits)
strap that is worn across the back of baby's head to keep the glasses
snug and comfy. With shatterproof materials, adjustable sizes, a 6
month warranty, and the ability to replace the lens with prescription
shades, this company has seriously thought of everything.
Here's
some food for thought: did you know that children don't have the
filters in their eyes to block out harmful UV rays until they are 8-9
years old? Just throwing on pair of every-day shades won't help, but
in fact might make things worse. Since the iris opens more to allow
more light in (while wearing sunglasses), the eye is even more
vulnerable and could potentially lead to more damage to the child's eye
if you don't have the right lens protecting their peepers. Scary, huh?
Baby Banz lenses
block out the entire spectrum of UVA, UVB, and UVC rays from the sun,
but do you know what all those A-B-C's mean? UVA rays are thought to be
more harmful to the skin – they cause sunburn and get below the outer
layer of skin. UVB rays are the rays thought to be the worst on the eye
and causing damage to the retina and lens with overexposure and
under-protection. UVC rays are extremely dangerous but do not reach the
earth's surface due to absorption in the atmosphere. As our atmosphere
gets worse and worse, more UV rays are getting through and affecting
our bodies. Protecting those baby blues (or greens, browns or
hazels...) is something we can, and should, all get behind.
