Medela Sleep Bra & Tender Care

July 12, 2008

Medela_sleep_braNighttime Nursing Minus the Wardrobe Malfunctions

It's a name us nursing mamas know by heart and after being hooked up to one of their beauties religiously for many long weeks myself, the words pumping and Medela are forever ingrained in my brain.  What you may not know is that in addition to their awesome pumps the folks at Medela have been paying attention to what other things a nursing mama needs.

For new moms struggling with sore, cracked or just plain leaky (glorious isn't it?!) nipples, the Tender Care line has pads and shells perfect for soothing your new high priority assets. We're huge fans of the the reusable 100% cotton nursing pads which will not only save you from embarrassing spots but are much easier on the environment than the plastic and packaging heavy, disposable variety.

Once you have all those ouch, latch and leak problems under control it helps to have a comfortable nursing bra that will work with your wardrobe (or lack there of). Medela has stepped up here too with a new collection of intimate apparel, full of nursing bras that are big on comfort and easy on your budget. The Sleep Bra [$20] is a must have for any nighttime nurser. It's supportive yet breathable enough for you to forget it's there, and the tag-less, racer back style help even more. Best of all it slips on over your head so there are no clasps to dig into your back just as you finally settle in.  The drawback cup means easy access when you need it and no need to snap anything back into place.

Michael Stars Maternitees

July 03, 2008

Michael_stars It's In The Stars

The style and comfort of a good luxury tee should not be sacrificed during pregnancy. Actually, this is the time you should be draping your expanding belly in only the best. Michael Stars Maternitees have made the top of my belly list.

I'm certain that there is magic in these tees. How they can make even the bumpiest of bumps (and sides and behinds) look flattering and trim is beyond my comprehension. But hey, I'm going to stop wondering and just start wearing. The gathered sides of the Maternity Shine Ruched Sleeveless Tunic [$48] make this tank sexy and slimming, bringing the eye only to your round tummy full of baby. Even simple basics like the Supima Capsleeve Scoop Neck [$46] can be worn for both the everyday and a night out.

Choose which tee is best for your bump by first, second, or third trimester- the collection accommodates growing Mamas of all shapes... and they all come in one size. Skeptical I was at first, but oh so pleased how several styles have fit me like a glove and returned to their original shape after multiple washings. Ban those frumpy, too-roomy, shrunk-up shirts and welcome to paradise. Michael Stars Maternitees will remain a wardrobe staple well after baby has arrived, I'm sure. It feels too good to look good. I'm not taking mine off.

Win it!
We're giving away the tunic and scoop neck tee linked here, one to each of two lucky readers! To enter, email giveaways[at]mamaspeaks.com with Stars as your subject. Let us know which tee you'd like, what size you'll need, and what line is NEW at Michael Stars. Giveaway ends July 06, 2008.

BYOG

June 17, 2008

Byog I'm Down With The Gown

Fashionable Moms-To-Be like me usually have it all covered before we head to the hospital- makeup, freshly pedicured toes, & hair "just right" for after-baby photos. But one look at that standard issue hospital gown and, uh, what a downer.

BYOG is exactly what you're thinking- Bring Your Own Gown. It's just like the hospital gown, so you'll have no probs with the nurses, only this one comes with easy snaps for breastfeeding instead of those slit-from-here-to-there holes in your front, and also ingeniously functional snaps in the back so that your derrière is kept to yourself.

Choose from two sizes- S/M or L/XL and the pattern that best suits you, not the delivery room wallpaper. So, you just might see glowing after-baby photos of me in my Appletini gown [$95], complete with removable sash. That is so my style. Now for the matching slippers and handbag...

Ripe Maternity

Ripe_maternity_tomboy_shorts When Your Belly’s Ripe

As my belly is growing with a new life inside, I’m looking longingly at the summer fashions ahead. I am hoping that I can stay in style and still look good, despite the roundness that is now my body. Maternity collections continue to pleasantly surprise me, but design isn’t the only thing I’m concerned about. Comfort is key. Oh goodness, comfort is a must.

At the park you’ll most likely find me sporting the crisp and cool Tomboy Shorts [$79] by Ripe Maternity Wear. The longer shorts are flattering for Moms-to-be and can even go from park to date night with just a change of shoes and shirt. Versatility in maternity wear is almost as important as comfort in my eyes. Invest in a few simple quality pieces and you can stretch your maternity wardrobe a long way. And hopefully that’s the only stretch marks you’ll see.

Win it!
We're sending one mama to be a pair of Ripe's Tomboy Shorts! To enter, email giveaways[at]mamaspeaks.com with Ripe as your subject. Let us know which other item from their summer collection you love and be sure to include your size (S-L).

Adoption Mama

April 12, 2008

Paperpregnant Paper Pregnant

I think those of us who have been lucky enough to bear biological children, often don't give much thought to the other ways Mama's are made. As someone with adoption in my future I think about it often and while I can't claim to know the struggles myself, seeing friends deal with infertility I have a glimpse at pain that melts into the sort of joy and excitement that overwhelms when they have finally found their child. Whether you have "arrived" at adoptive mama-hood through similar struggles or chose adoption as your number one, this one is for you.

Adoption Mama
Boutique keeps all of this and more in mind and truly celebrates the adoptive mom with their themed tees. Created of course, by an adoptive mama after adding a Chinese born daughter to her family, Jennifer knows first hand which things are better said with your shirt. Our favorite Paper Pregnant [$26], is the perfect fit for any "expectant" mother and we love the simple sass behind the "Real Mama" line. Whether you're an adoptive mama or know someone who is, head on over, you'll find an entire collection of tees perfect from referral day through Mama-hood.

We're also happy to announce Adoption Mama's offshoot, Wife Mother Me, which celebrates all of who us Mama's are, with tees and accessories.

Win it!
We're giving away 2 tees from Adoption Mama and Wife Mother Me to one lucky reader! To enter, email giveaways[at]mamaspeaks.com with Adopt as your subject. One winner will be chosen to receive a Paper Pregnant and Mama tee in M/L. Giveaway ends April 12.

-Steph,

I Gave You My Heart Necklace

February 05, 2008

Heart Be Still My Beating Heart

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, some of us are beginning, or continuing our year round efforts, to drop subtle hints to our significant others.  (Or maybe to finally click that "buy" button for a little something to ourselves.  Go on, you deserve it, don't feel guilty.)  Although the the staples of flowers (yawn) and candy (New Year's Resolution anyone?) are fine, jewelry is always a fast track to the heart.

While diamonds will always be this girl's best friend, with a touchy-feely child in my life, there is something unnerving about a mortgage payment dangling around my neck.  I need beautiful but affordable, funky but classy.  This is why I fell in love with the handmade beauties of Dandelion Blu.   We've adopted Sherry's creations as our incognito mama jewels like the customizable Nesting necklace [$35] and hairpins [$20] and the Sweetpea earrings [$22].  But she really won our heart over with her I Gave You My Heart Necklace [$55].

With the hand crafted three dimensional, copper heart organ pendant and silver arteries, this Dandelion Blu original piece is unique and eye catching.  It's just the piece your neck has been missing and Valentine's Day the perfect excuse to get it.   If you prefer to keep your organs internal, maybe you'll find more pleasure with the equally stunning Paper Valentine.I'm sure we've all suffered enough broken hearts to know you can always use a spare.

Stellarocco

January 25, 2008

Stellarocco Rocco on!

I’m a tee shirt and jeans type of nature gal, but still like to bring out my girly side, too. The feminine, botanical-inspired collection of tees by Stellarocco are perfect for everyday comfort but with just the right style.

I’ve already decided that mall shopping for myself is just a thing of the past- I’m not in high school any more! So it’s about time to update my wardrobe accordingly… thankfully Stellarocco designers (and sisters!) Dina & Kate dreamed up a brand of wearable art that is affordable, modern, and also sweatshop free.

Choose short or long sleeved designs made with delicate patterns and soft cotton. I love the thin, lightweight feel- great for layering or pairing with a sweater if you’re chilly. Or by itself in just the right weather. Lately obsessed with all things birds, I’m equally crazy about the Modern Bird boatneck top in lemon meringue [$28]. The short sleeved Orchids tee in coffee [$26] is as soft as they can get, and I love that it’s longer in the waist. Stellarocco’s shirts are made for womanly curves without low-cut necklines and compromising modesty. Do be sure to order at least one size up as they are pre-shrunk and run small. Always enjoy free shipping on orders in the US- such a bonus to the already fantastic price points.

Win it!

Nixon

January 14, 2008

Nixon Vega, Baby!

In the age of iPod's, cell phones and modern convenience it seems watches have gone by the wayside. At any given time I have at least two gadgets on my person that happen to tell time, there's always one in the car and of course there's that clock in my kitchen that occasionally cooks things. So, a watch, something else I have to remember to put on and take off, just hasn't been priority.

That said, even I have found The Vega from Nixon [$60-$100] impossible to pass up. In all it's gorgeous contradictions this chunky timepiece is smooth and sleek, offering up modern style with a hint of that retro feel. The stretchy polycarbonate band creates a custom one-size fit without the use of buckles or clasps. And the 3 hand Japanese quartz ticker will keep you moving right on time.

The Vega comes in classic black, several bright bold colors and the latest faux wood style all of us are drooling over. I think it's obvious we're wrist (?) over heals for this one, but if it's not the one for you, no worries, Nixon has countless other watches happy to tell your time.

Simple_2 Green Thumbs Are So Last Season

We hear a lot about our ecological footprint these days and it's great to be mindful of the impact we have on the earth. But have you ever thought about your ecological footprint literally? Other than look and comfort, I don't think most of us pay too much attention to what goes into what goes on our feet. Thankfully the folks at Simple Shoes have done the thinking for us, presenting several lines of awesome footwear both fashionable and ecologically sound.

Introduced in 2005 Simple's GreenToe line promises to provide a product that is 100% sustainable. And with a slew of styles available for Mama's and Papa's you can find something for everyone. From the organic cotton and bamboo lining to the jute laces and so much more, what goes into these shoes is simply amazing.

With this nice little shoe company creating shoes for a happy planet we can all do our part in making our step a little softer.

Smart Mom Jewelry

January 04, 2008

Smartmom Bada-Bling

With a 10 month old son who I swear has been teething since birth, I have been on the lookout for anything (and I mean anything) that would satisfy his innate need to chomp. On the market these days are tons of “teething toys” that range from water filled plastic toys to textured rings, and of course nothing that seemed to be baby-approved in my house. On the flip-side, he finds many, many things that are not particularly made to be used as a baby chew toy to stick in his mouth, that in turn makes mama a little paranoid. You know- cat toys, plastic hangers, shoes- yum! It wasn’t until I found Teething Bling, that I was able to drop the paranoia and get back to being a happy mom.

The Teething Bling pendant [$19], by Smart Mom Jewelry may look like just another stylish little necklace but after you (and baby) get one feel (and taste, on the baby’s end of course) you'll realize it's much more. It is actually made out of the same material most teething rings are made out of, but is 100% LEAD-FREE! Not to mention, non-toxic, latex-free and phthalate free and is equipped with a breakaway clasp, for that strong little one who’s giving it a tug. The objective is simple, Mama wears the Bling and it gives baby something to play with or chew on while in her loving arms. And with the it being so attractive to the baby, their attraction to it is priceless.

When my son first got his hands on the matching Teething Bangle [$13] it went straight to the mouth. After a little while of chewing on it, he removed it from his mouth (covered with drool), and let out the cutest little “MMmmmm”. Translation: “Baby’s stamp of approval”.

Win it!
We have a Teething Bling pendant for one mama who's baby needs to chew! To enter send an email to giveaways@mamaspeaks.com by midnight January 04 with Bling as your subject.

Fleur't Lingerie

December 21, 2007

Fleurt Fabulous Fleur't

Today is my anniversary. We're five. It has been in these five years that I've discovered something pretty spectacular. You ready for this? I, am a girl.  Shocking right? And while I'm grateful for his indifference to my longstanding tomboy ways, my husband is obviously a guy, and well, he likes pretty, sexy stuff. More specifically, ME in pretty, sexy stuff.

Yeah, that's been a problem. Even with my new found girly-girl-ness. There are certain things that I just don't do. Certain things like lace, ribbon, bows (and sorry honey!), but I'm not about to feel like a stuffed sausage for the sake of some time in the, well you get where I'm headed. And so me and lingerie have had a long standing love hate relationship. My husband loves it, I hate it.

Until... drum roll please, I discovered my Fleur'ty side. The beautiful line available from Fleur't lingerie is perfect for all of us girls. Gorgeous enough for special occasions and comfortable enough to leave you feeling special with every day wear, these bra's, panties and camisoles will satisfy both sides the marital equation. It shouldn't surprise me that the lingerie I am finally happy with was designed by a former rocker. Designer Nancy Yoo knows the female form and has created a gorgeous collection that fits and feels good.

My favorite, the Lulu set, is a statement in simple sexiness. The Lulu Bustier Camisole [$55] stretches gently to hug curves and is supportive enough to wear alone. Paired with the Lulu Boy Pant [$35], you have some hot undies straight from heaven. These bottoms sit low on your hips and give a snug fit without a tight waist band (and yes they cover all of your assets). And (gasp!) did you notice the lace? I guarantee this is lace you will love!

Cute, comfy, and straight up sexy, the name says it all, go Fleur't!

Win it!
We're giving away two Lulu Camisole and Boy Pant sets in green for two fleur't-ay readers. Just send an email to giveaways[at]mamaspeaks.com by midnight December 21 with flirt as your subject and let us know if you'll need a S/M or M/L.

Bosom Button

December 17, 2007

Bosom Button Up!

Fashion can be fierce when it comes to modesty. Some of the cutest tops and dresses I find are just too low cut for this nursing Mama. Pinning and wearing a camisole underneath are such a hassle and often ruin “the look.” I was really excited to find the Bosom Button [$12], a tiny piece of jewelry that also functions to cover that cleavage!

On certain occasions I can get away with a lower neckline, but in other situations I would rather cover up. Handmade of real Swarovski crystal, pearl, or fine gem, the Bosom Button expands your wardrobe. It a fine accessory for the modest or when you just need to secure something in place. Buy individually and choose from 10 different color samples or add The Essential Collection [$25] or The Classic Collection [$25] to complete every style.

Just pierce the Bosom Button through your clothing and fasten the back. I am no longer stressing about plunging necklines and loose wrap tops or dresses. The Bosom Button even can take the place of a missing button on your favorite shirt. And it soon just might become the new must-have item to keep in your handbag for just in case. No more safety pins or double stick tape- I am so relieved. Discreet and tiny enough to not distract, but you can still make a small fashion statement- it’s got you covered.

Win it!
Bosom button anyone? Just send an email to giveaways@mamaspeaks.com by midnight December 17 with Button as your subject, for your chance to win.

Inca Mama

December 04, 2007

Francia2 Warm This Mama Up

Keep that baby bump warm and wrap up with the sensually-soft Peruvian Alpaca sweaters by Inca Mama. Chic and versatile, you can stay cozy and in fashion during your pregnancy and beyond the post partum days. I’m not even expecting and am, ahem, way post-baby with a two-year-old, but you’ll still find me throwing my Francia wrap over a tank top or fitted tee. The loose cut of Inca Mama’s designs keep the maternity factor incognito… it doesn’t look or feel like you’re wearing maternity clothing at all.

Inca Mama’s collections accommodate the casual or dressy Mom and Mom-to-be. Every wardrobe longs for the multi-functional Miraflores Wrap [$127] available in several colors to compliment your closet. The Shaina hoody will be your snuggly best friend in the spring breeze, cool summer night, and chill of fall.

While you’re giving you & your baby the warmth of a luxurious sweater, you’re also giving back to children in need. Inca Mama has made a commitment to send $1 of every purchase to organizations that provide food and education for the poor children of Peru.

There’s just no comparison to such quality lavish yarn. Inca Mama is timeless in value and style, sure to become a staple of your Mama runway to the park, grocery store, Mom’s Night Out and of course, Mom’s Night In.

Head in the Sand

November 02, 2007

SandcasselI love a stylish hat which is a shame really, since I don't have the head for it.  But isn't that part of the fun of having kids? So we can dress them up in all the fun things we wish we could wear?  At least that's true until they gain control of their limbs and can fight you off when you try to put that cute little hat on them.  That's how it works in my house anyway - apparently my son and I don't share the same love for headgear.  But thank you Sand Cassel, you put a cool blue tractor on a cap,  and the hat war has ended!

Sand Cassel's kids collection is designed for older toddlers and small children (I wonder just how hard we'd have to beg them to create a line for infants too).  You'll find they're your one stop shop for all your head-wear needs- from winter to summer, for boys and girls and many are funky enough to go either way, year round.  Plus, every hat is stylish enough you will throw out that "no hats at the dinner table rule." That is, if you have that kind of rule.

As you flip through the pages of Sand Cassel, you'll find yourself wishing they came in your size too and today is your lucky day because some of them do.  With Mom, Dad, and the little one's covered with cool hat's all around, there's no excuse for a bare head this winter!

Win it!

We have a darling Darla hat for one lucky girl! Just send an email to reviews[at]mamaspeaks.com by midnight November 2, with Sand Cassel as your subject and let us know what year these bold hat makers got things going.

Zen is In - A Guide for Yogi's, Yogini's and Your Average Joan.

October 20, 2007

Yoga makes the world go 'round. Ok, so maybe it doesn't but it definitely makes for a more peaceful planet. Yoga is fun, it helps center you (if just for a moment), plus, it's great exercise. And it happens to be all the rage for the kids these days.

Itsy
Bitsy Not Just For Spiders Anymore

Iby_2 I didn’t have much interest in Yoga before I became a mom, it was a little too passive for me.  Enter years of lugging around extra people and co-sleeping in contorted positions, yoga has become my new best friend.  If it can work magic on my aching and stressed muscles, imagine how beneficial it would be for those little people trying to figure out exactly how their bodies work work.  Itsy Bitsy Yoga was developed to nurture babies body, spirit and mind.

Itsy Bitsy Yoga is made up of simple gentle poses designed specifically to help develop your baby’s motor development.  The benefits for baby and Mama are endless from a better night's sleep to less fussiness and it's the best thing around to solve those tricky tummy troubles.  Best of all, it deepens the parent/child bond and gets that new mama out of the house.

Itsty Bitsy Yoga classes are available in most states.  When my son was a newborn, we had to travel a bit to find an Itsy Bitsy Yoga class but in just the past two years, IBY is popping up in yoga studios, gyms and even children’s bookstores world wide.  Classes are available for pre-crawlers, crawlers and toddlers through age 4.   If you’re a slave to the nap and unable to find a class that fits into your schedule, check out the new DVDs for your own home-based session. (Cara)

Yogi-Poli

Yolipoli We know you want the little one's to be comfy and look fashionable while they perfect their downward dog. The Organic Kids line from Yoli-Poli offers up cozy cute tees that are perfect for yoga class or the playground. Available in a variety of colors for boys, girls and baby, the tees feature "lil-yogi's" in some of our favorite poses. They are the perfect inspiration for your little one to show off that tree pose he's been working so hard to master.

For us Mommy-Folk

Of course yoga is great for us grown-ups too. There are countless kinds of classes available ranging from slow paced, gentle Hatha to the super physical Ashtanga (or power yoga) and everything in between. We recommend asking around and checking out YogaFinder.com to find what's available near you.

Prenatal yoga is essential to help you feel comfortable in your growing stretching body and once baby arrives an adult class a week can provide you with some special Mama time. Many adult studios also offer Mommy & Me classes, where mom practices and occasionally incorporates baby as a counterbalance or weight. And of course you can always pick up a DVD to practice your moves at home.

Peaceful Pretty

Omgirl_2 Let us not forget to pick up something to celebrate our zen status. Soft, colorful and made from the finest materials, OMgirl's line brings separates that are perfect for yoga practice and everyday. Their pants are definitely something to write home about, super soft and durable they've quickly become our go-to for class, bed-time, grocery runs and play dates. Ok, so we'd live in them if they didn't ever need to be washed.

"OMgirl clothing is made with love and is meant to inspire joy and encourage the world to discover the Yoga within." And since we can't go a minute without thinking of our kids you might want to check out the Teeny Yogini collection for infants, toddlers, boys and girl.

Namaste.

Win it!
We're giving away a copy of the Itsy Bitsy Yoga Sleep n' Grow DVD [$20]! Just send an email to reviews@mamaspeaks[dot]com and let us know the name of the amazing woman who developed IBY by Midnight, October 21.

Saving Ta-ta's - Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 18, 2007

Bca One in eight women in the US will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer in her lifetime. 1 in 8. That means you, one of your friends, your sister, your mother, someone you know will be affected. For me it was my Aunt. Several years, chemo, a double mastectomy, reconstruction, another reconstruction, prayers and tears, hope and faith, and we have remission. It's gone. But there's always a chance it could come back and the only hope is a cure. Thankfully there are many great organizations out there dedicated to funding research, reaching out to women and spreading the word. Please take the time to check them out, get involved and most importantly take care of yourself with regular breast exams.

Susan G. Komen: "Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, they have invested nearly $1 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world."

Avon Breast Cancer Crusade: "The mission of the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade is to raise funds and awareness for advancing access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer, with a focus on the medically under served. From its launch in 1992 through 2006, the multi-faceted initiatives of the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade have raised and awarded more than $450,000,000 to the breast cancer cause worldwide. Funding is awarded to five areas: breast cancer education and awareness, screening and diagnosis, access to treatment, support services and scientific research. Avon now supports programs for breast cancer in some 50 countries around the world."

Tatas It's very true that laughter heals. By far our favorite brand of Breast Cancer Awareness gear comes from the aptly named Ta-ta's Brand Clothing. Through their "Save the Ta-ta's" line they are helping the fight against breast cancer by spreading awareness (and smiles!). Plus, 5% of every sale is donated to cancer fighting organizations they believe in, you can't beat that.

Win it!
Ta-ta's Brand are graciously offering up a gift basket to one lucky reader. If you'd like to enter, subscribe to Save the Ta-Ta's and send an email to reviews@mamaspeaks[dot]com by midnight October 18.

Got Boob?

October 17, 2007

Boob
Are you pregnant? Are you tired of looking frumpy? Then you need Boob Maternity! Boob Maternity has the latest fashions for the chic. When you're pregnant you need to feel good about your body and embrace the changes all that growing brings, it's easy with these fabulous clothes. You can walk out of your house feeling confident and looking great in clothing made to accentuate your new body. And not only do they look great, but the soft and stretchy pieces feel great too. With tops, tanks, jeans and dresses you'll find something for every occasion.

And even better than Boob's maternity wear is their nursing collection. So many nursing tops leave you struggling with straps and snaps, tucking and pulling and all too often you end up with your belly hanging out and your shirt halfway over your head anyway. Boob's tops make it all too easy, the slit right under your bust lifts right up for easy access and because there's one opening, switching sides is easy even if you find yourself nursing in the middle of a crowd.  Nursing can be challenging enough as it is, your top doesn't need to make it any harder.

Let's Paaaaaarty!

October 16, 2007

Lmm2_2 I'm convinced there lives a creature in every mom's dryer that has a hunger for socks. Ok, so not really, but why is it that one sock is always missing? Never the pair and never the old, ratty, holey sock, nope- no way, always one of our favs. Well, Little MissMatched has the perfect solution to our woes. Their socks come in three's and are wonderfully mismatched, that way if one goes missing, you'll always have an extra. The funky, bold colors and cute designs are perfect for any girly girl or fun fashion-pushing mama, and thanks to the new Mixter Max line, the boys and daddy's can go sock crazy too.

Haute Mama. Cool Babe.

August 01, 2007

Boosom_buddies While I won't claim to have been a fashionista before motherhood, I will admit that the wardrobe has slipped a bit since baby made three. I tend to stick more with practical and comfortable (even it means wearing yoga pants for a week) than anything that could be mistaken for a fashion statement.

There is, however, help on the horizon. Mama Tonjia Coverdale, owner of DivasNBabes, is encouraging us all to ditch the over sized tee's and baseball caps and release our inner diva. Her Haute Mama Line [$11-$30] is full of comfy, casual clothes that will help you make a statement and the Cool Babe collection [$8-$30] has tees perfect for your favorite sidekick.

Just for Mama Speaks readers, DivasnBabes is offering 15% off your total purchase with code MS15. And in honor of World Breastfeeding Week are extending another 25% discount off all breastfeeding/babywearing shirts!

Win it!
Of course we have something special for you. We're giving away an "I Pump Milk, not Weights" tank for Mama and a "Breast Friends" tee for baby. Just email the name of Tonjia's tot to reviews@mamaspeaks[dot]com by midnight August 1.

Perfect in Punk

July 27, 2007

New Yorker's Alyce Benevides & Jaqueline Milles are serving up the coolest accessory for Mama's little punk rocker. The signature Mohawk hat [$80] available from Knit-Head is handcrafted from wool and mohair and features a mohawk, earmuff accents and tassles.

Whether you're getting a jump start on your cold weather essentials or just looking for a unique  hat to funk up baby's wardrobe, the Baby Mohawk will keep baby rockin' as you roll. And if you're looking to release your inner rockstar Knit-Head has mohawk hats (along with a few tamer styles) available for Mama's and Papa's too.

In the Mixx

July 23, 2007

Mixx_2 We all know by now that leaving the house with baby means you'll be bringing most of the house with you. Sure, there are plenty of "official" diaper bags that fit the bill, but most are seriously lacking in style. I prefer a classic tote to stash all the baby essentials, and the current offering from Mixx fits the bill. The funky Slingtote [$28] is large enough for a day on the town and the gorgeous prints are perfect for everyday. The tote features a zippered exterior pocket so you can keep your wallet and keys separated from all the diapers and wipes and it gets even better on the inside, with a large divided pocket perfect for stashing a cell phone, pacifier and a toy or two, so you can be ready to quick draw as needed.

The Slingtotes aren't the only carry-alls you'll find at Mixx, there's also traditional canvas, plush fabric and laminated canvas totes to keep all your goodies dry. And the coordinating cell phone and iPod holders will help distinguish your gadgets from your little ones. And, of course, it's perfectly acceptable if you don't want to share your bag with baby after all.

Precious Jules

July 19, 2007

She set out to make something special just for him and soon Julian & Co. was born. Each piece is handcrafted and beautifully made. The sterling silver pendants feature tiny foot or hand prints and can be personalized with your baby's name and birth info. Sugar and Spice

July 09, 2007

Passionspice_2 To say, since I’ve had kids my style has taken a back seat, would be an understatement.  Thankfully black yoga pants go with absolutely everything in my world.  But I always say it’s what’s underneath that counts and with that in mind, PassionSpice Maternity will have you feeling runway worthy.

PassionSpice Maternity will take you through pregnancy (looking HOT I may add) and beyond like oh, 2+ years beyond with their sexy nursing bras.  I know, I know nursing and sexy don’t normally go hand in hand but check out the black Carla Nursing Bra [$49] with the sweet pink accents and you’ll know just what I mean.  With their quick access nursing clasps you can look great and be functional at the same time.   Add on the coordinating Tap Pant [$9] and you’ll remember just how you became a mother in the first place.  Which is completely OK because the maternity sleepwear which my virgin eyes, ahem, can hardly bare will be there waiting for you.
